HCPCS has two levels. Level I is the CPT code set maintained by the American Medical Association. Level II is the alphanumeric set maintained by CMS, which covers everything CPT does not — including drugs administered by a clinician.
Pronounced hick-picks. The distinction matters because CPT licences and HCPCS Level II files have different publishers, release cycles and terms of use.
